Three hungry criminal masterminds were busted over the weekend after a trail of macaroni salad led cops to their secret hideout.

Matthew P. Sapetko, 34, James P. Marullo, 35, and Timothy S. Walker Jr., 23, A.K.A. Hansel & Gretel, & Gretel – were arrested for stealing a cash register and surveillance system from the Build A Burger restaurant in Mt. Morris, New York.

But you gotta give these guys props for effort – they tried to cover their tracks by stealing the surveillance system but in the end it was their hunger that got them busted. Apparently the burger burglars made their getaway on foot, heading down a hiking trail while munching on a big bowl of Build A Burger macaroni salad. Cops were able to follow a trail of macaroni salad, lose change, and cash register parts that led right to the hungry thief’s hideout.

What’s really fishy about this incident is the fact that Sapetko lists his occupation as a Manager at Wendy’s. We’re not sure but we suspect he may have been sent to the local mom and pop burger stand by Wendy’s in an attempt to run them out of town and sell more Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers and Frostys. If this is the case Sapetko is nothing more than a patsy and must be protected at all costs until he can tell his story – the country simply isn’t ready for another Lee Harvey Oswald.
